8 Things to Do in Metro Detroit This Memorial Day Weekend
Summer bucket lists are beginning to form and you’ve got to add these 8 things to your to-do list!
The unofficial start of summer begins now, and what better way to kick it off than to have some fun in Metro Detroit! Memorial Day Weekend marks the beginning of summer BBQs, boat rides, and so much more — so here’s 8 things you can do this weekend to spice things up!
1. Go on an Aloha Tiki Tour
Everyone loves a boat day, but Aloha Tiki Tours will give you the ultimate boating experience. Add an ounce of the tropics to your life and take on Lake St. Clair or the Detroit River in style. Relax on the river, get some sun, and pretend you’re on vacation for an hour this weekend — you won’t regret it!
2. Explore the Eastern Market
Whether you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, grab a local cup of Joe, or get your hands on some artisanal soap, the Eastern Market has everything you could ever ask for — and it’s all locally made! The Eastern Market is open this weekend on Saturday from 6AM – 4PM, so head on down for a taste test and shopping spree to support local businesses.
3. Watch the Detroit Tigers Game
Our beloved Detroit Tigers are playing all weekend! Head downtown to see them take on the New York Yankees Friday through Sunday, or tune in from home on Monday while they play the Milwaukee Brewers. Let’s play ball!
4. Visit the Detroit Zoo
As the weather continues to warm up, more and more exhibits at the Detroit Zoo continue to open up too! Check out all of your favorite animals and give your family a fun weekend to remember!
5. Go to a Drive-In Movie
Warm weather is back which means drive-in theaters are reopening all over the state. Head over to your local drive in and check out what movies they’ve got in store this weekend. Take a look at the Ford Drive-In Theater or the Summer Drive-In at the USA Hockey Arena to get your tickets ahead of time!
6. Check Out the Detroit Riverwalk
The Detroit Riverwalk was named 2021’s Best Riverwalk by USA Today, so why not check out our own city’s hidden gem? The lakefront breeze is sure to keep away the summer heat, and the view sure doesn’t hurt either!
7. Visit Campus Martius
Everyone knows Campus Martius is the place to be during the winter months, with an ice skating rink, Christmas trees, and all sorts of fun attractions — but summertime is no exception! Campus Martius has all sorts of sights to see from food trucks to local art and everything in between. So head on downtown to check out the heart of the city and enjoy the weather this weekend!
8. Have a Cornhole Tournament
No backyard BBQ is complete without a game of bags, baggo, cornhole, or whatever you want to call it! Grab your family and friends, bring on the competition, and let the games begin!
