December 2022 Auto Recalls

Safety on the roads should be a top priority for everyone, and while driving safely is an important factor, the safety of your vehicle matters just as much. While today’s vehicles are equipped with top of the line safety features, vehicle recalls can happen every day. Make sure you stay up to date with auto recalls to ensure that your vehicle is ready to roll on the roads.

According to data provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the following recalls were issued in December. If you find your vehicle on this list, contact your dealership for further information about the steps to take relating to your specific recall defect.

2021-2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 62,909
Defect: An engine shutdown can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

2021-2022 Chevrolet 4500HD/5500HD/6500HD vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 5,861
Defect: Broken hex flange lock nuts may cause a loss of tension, leading to steering instability, and increasing the risk of a crash.

2023 Kia Sportage vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 76,918
Defect: A twisted air bag can deploy improperly, increasing the risk of injury.

2019-2020 Cadillac XT4 vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 10,194
Defect: The video processing module (VPM) may lose communication with the rearview camera, causing a loss of the rearview camera image.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 5
Defect: An SDM in manufacturing mode will not deploy the vehicle’s air bags in a crash, increasing the risk of occupant injury.

2022 Dodge Charger and Durango vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 5,834
Defect: The shifter assembly was not properly heat-treated, which can prevent the shifter from properly engaging in the “drive” position.

2023 Tesla Model Y vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 9
Defect: The left-hand front suspension lateral link fasteners may not have been properly attached to the sub-frame.

2022-2023 Porsche 911 vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 53
Defect: In the event of a crash with passenger air bag deployment, the dashboard console may break, causing the air bag to deploy improperly.

2017-2021 Tesla Model S and Model X vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 40,168
Defect: The electronic power assist steering (EPAS) system may experience a loss of power steering assist when driving on rough roads or after hitting a pothole.

2020 Kia Niro EV vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 872
Defect: The Electric Power Control Unit (EPCU) may have been improperly sealed and may leak coolant internally.

2019-2022 Subaru Ascent vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 271,694
Defect: The ground bolt that secures the ground terminal of the Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heater may have been improperly fastened, which could result in melting of the ground terminal and surrounding components.

2023 Kia Forte vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 939
Defect: Due to a manufacturing error, the front left steering knuckle may crack, which can result in a loss of steering control.

2021 GM Yukon, Yukon XL, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, Cadillac Escalade, and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles.
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 338,735
Defect: The daytime running lights (DRLs) may not deactivate when the headlights are on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”

2019-2022 Chrysler Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup trucks
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 1,224,078
Defect: The tailgate may not latch properly due to misaligned tailgate strikers, which could result in the tailgate opening while driving.

Certain Cadillac, Buick, Chevrolet, and GMC vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 740,108
Defect: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Cadillac CT4 and CT5; 2021-2023 Buick Envision; and 2022-2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. Defect: Missing weight information may result in unintentional overloading of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

2023 McLaren Artura vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 164
Defect: The nuts for the high pressure fuel pipe may loosen, which can result in a fuel leak.

2022-2023 GM Chevrolet Malibu vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 2,108
Defect: The front impact bar, a structural portion of the vehicle frame, may not be properly welded to the front frame rail.

2022 Audi E-Tron GT vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 96
Defect: A retaining ring on top of the suspension strut may come loose, resulting air loss from the strut spring..

Certain Porsche Taycan vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 28
Defect: Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2021 Taycan, Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo S, Taycan 4 Cross Turismo, and Taycan 4S Cross Turismo vehicles. A retaining ring on top of the suspension strut may come loose, resulting in a dislodged strut and air loss from the strut spring.

2022-2023 Ford E-350, E-450, and 2021-2022 F-59 vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 11,074
Defect: The paint along the weld seam of the fuel tank may peel and lead to corrosion of the exposed metal, which can result in a fuel leak.

2021-2022 Ford Bronco vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 1,226
Defect: The right or left side impact sensors may not be properly secured to the vehicle.

2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 4×4-squared vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 278
Defect: The rear axle differential housing may crack, leaking oil onto the road. In addition, the rear axle differential housing may break, resulting in a loss of rear wheel control and drive power.

2017-2023 GM Chevrolet Bolt EV vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 111,242
Defect: After a crash with seat belt pretensioner deployment, the pretensioner exhaust may ignite carpet fibers near the B-pillar, causing a fire.

2023 GM Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 9
Defect: The Occupant Classification System may not properly disable the front passenger air bag when there is a small child or child restraint detected in the seat.

2019 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT53 and AMG GT 63 vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 11
Defect: In certain types of crash events, the center console may unlatch, allowing the storage compartment to open. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 201, “Occupant Protection in Interior Impact.”

2021-2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE350, GLE450, 2022 AMG GLE53, AMG GLE63, and GLS450 vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 69
Defect: The steering coupling locking screw may loosen and possibly detach from the steering gear, resulting in a loss of steering control.

2022 Mercedes-Benz S 500 vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 1
Defect: The dashboard may be insufficiently attached, which can result in an improper front passenger air bag deployment in the event of a crash.

2021 Hyundai Kona EV vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 853
Defect: The Electric Power Control Unit (EPCU) may have been improperly sealed and may leak coolant internally.

2022 Honda Acura TLX vehicles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 19
Defect: The tires may have sustained cuts and tears during the sorting process, which can result in tire damage.

2015-2016 Volkswagen Beetle and Beetle Convertibles
Year: 2022
Units Recalled: 37,558
Defect: The driver’s side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
