Greektown becomes Detroit’s first ‘Project Green Light Corridor’

Greektown has become the first business corridor getting surveillance through Detroit’s Project Green Light. Greektown’s visitors won’t be monitored by dispatched police officers but through live video surveillance from a surveillance center in the Detroit police headquarters. Last Spring Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan stated that he was trying to establish “Green Light Corridors”. The purpose of project Green Light is to prevent crime before it happens, and city officials give this project credit for reducing crime by 11 percent between 2016-2017. Businesses that sign up do have to pay a sign on fee and monthly payments, but they get guaranteed weekly visits from officers and any incidents get a “priority 1” emergency response.
