Beekeepers Are Transforming Detroit Vacant Lots into Bee Farms
“Work hard, stay bumble” is the motto of the nonprofit Detroit Hives. The couple and Detroit natives Nicole Lindsey and Timothy Paule are working to clean up the area by flipping vacant lots into farms that raise honeybees. Currently they have one farm but are planning on expanding throughout 2018. Detroit Hives collects honey from their farm and then sells to the public and local vendors and retailers. The nonprofit’s goal is to clean up the city and to spread bee awareness through public tours of the farm and visiting local Detroit schools to speak with students.
