Indoor velodrome expected to draw cyclists to Detroit
The Lexus Velodrome is an inflatable and climate-controlled dome that houses an indoor cycling track. The new indoor cycling track is currently open to the public and is located north of Mack Avenue at I-75. Dale Hughes, who designed and built the Velodrome, said that an anonymous donor put up $5 million for the project. Hughes also said that the anonymous donor had grown up in Metro Detroit and wanted to give back by doing something special for the kids. Currently the Velodrome offers 3 different youth programs for free. The free programs include an after school program, school field trips, and a balance bike program.
